Gökhan Yücel holds BA in Journalism & Economics from Marmara University and MA in European Politics from Essex University. He studied politics at the University of Oxford. He also completed the Public Leadership Executive Program at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
From 2009 to 2011, he was a senior advisor to the Turkish Minister of National Education. He is known as a leading public intellectual, speaker, broadcaster and writer on digital diplomacy, comparative education policies, 21st century skills, political marketing, technology and future trends.
Currently, he is the president of the Istanbul Center for Digital Affairs (ICDA) which conducts research on digital diplomacy and the impact of artificial intelligence on society. Recently, ICDA published the Digital Diplomacy Review (http://digital.diplomacy.live/) and The State of Digital Diplomacy Report (www.sodd16.com).
Gökhan Yücel is currently an advisor for the OECD project “Future of Education and Skills: Education 2030”. He is also the member of the Judging Academy for the Global Teacher Prize. From October 2017 to January 2018 he acted as a digital diplomacy adviser for the United Nations and drafted a report covering digital diplomacy performance of UN social media assets and those of the Secretary General.
From 2011 to 2017, he taught digital diplomacy, future of instructional and curriculum design and education technologies at University of Bahcesehir, University of Okan, University of Aydın. In 2017-18, he taught strategic communication course for engineering students at Yıldız Technical University.
Gökhan Yücel has delivered talks on the future of artificial intelligence and its impact on work, learning and governance for university students in 41 cities on a nation-wide tour sponsored by Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Gökhan Yücel is a senior strategist at Arter Advertising, and sporadically contributes to Digital Age and Hürriyet’s education supplement. He is also a mentor at the Center for Entrepreneurship at T3 Foundation.
